The annual Veterans Day Parade will take place in downtown Dalton on Saturday, Nov. 11, starting at 10 a.m. Veterans Day is Friday, Nov. 10.
The parade will start on Waugh Street, go east on Waugh to Hamilton Street, then west on Morris Street and north on Thornton Avenue.
Jim Lovain, commander of Dalton American Legion Post 112 which sponsors the parade, said those who wish to take part can call (706) 226-5120.
He said the grand marshal this year is veteran and race car driver Jimmy Johnson.
“This is not the Jimmie Johnson who retired from NASCAR a few years ago,” he said. “There are two Jimmy Johnsons.”
He said Johnson will have a race car simulator at the American Legion post at 118 N. Glenwood Ave. in Dalton on the day of the parade.
The American Legion and the Dalton Elks Lodge are partnering once again for a dinner for veterans on Sunday, Nov. 12, at the Elks Lodge. The event is only for veterans and their guests.
John Wilson, past commander of Post 112, said he is taking nominations for Veteran of the Year, which will be presented at that dinner.
“The Veteran of the Year is the veteran who is doing the most for other veterans,” he said.
