The board of Dalton Utilities recently moved to expand sewer to the area around the Connector 3 interchange, Yeager Road and Dug Gap Road.
The board approved a $303,100 bid from UWS of Buford for the project. That is labor only. Dalton Utilities will provide the materials, which have a projected cost of $119,128.
The project calls for the installation of 4,000 feet of low-pressure sewer main. The utility estimates the work will take 180 days.
The project will be funded from Whitfield County’s share of the four-year, $66 million Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax approved by county voters in 2020.
“We are grateful for Dalton Utilities support of our strategy to expand sewers in the southern part of the county,” said Whitfield County Board of Commissioners Chairman Jevin Jensen. “This builds on the ongoing efforts to expand sewers on the west and north sides of the county.”
“Many residential properties on the south side won’t perk properly for septic tanks, so this will allow landowners to build a home,” he said. “Also, it is nearly impossible to open a new restaurant without sewers so this could enable new dining options for local residents and workers in the (Carbondale Business Park).”
