CUMBERLAND — A Cumberland man was arrested late Tuesday after he threatened to harm people at a Gay Street residence and then barricaded himself in the dwelling for two hours, according to the Cumberland Police Department.
Thomas Michael Wiggington Jr., 48, was jailed on charges of threat of mass violence, disorderly conduct, failure to obey a lawful order and related crimes following the 8:27 p.m. incident in the 900 block of Gay Street, police said.
The arrest was made without incident before a district court commissioner ordered Wiggington jailed on a temporary commitment.
Police were called to the location twice before the final incident in which Wiggington surrendered to city officers who were assisted at the scene by the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office. Officers were on the scene for about two hours.
