A Cumberland County man was sentenced to 20 years for evading arrest, simple possession/casual exchange, driving with a suspended license, possession of methamphetamine — manufacture, deliver, sell and possess with intent, reckless endangerment and evading arrest with risk of death or injury with a vehicle.
Brent Cody Waldo, 40, fled from a traffic stop at Westel Rd. and Church Loop on Nov. 4, 2022.
Police initiated the traffic stop due to an unrecognizable tag. Waldo then sped off at a high rate of speed, clocked at 108 mph, and was observed passing double yellow lines, almost colliding with another vehicle.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle’s tires were disabled by a tire-disabling strip at Hwy. 70 E. and Daysville Rd. and slowed to 48 mph.
Waldo exited the vehicle and ran on foot about 300 yards where he was then apprehended. Law enforcement commenced a vehicle search where they found methamphetamine in the car with scales indicating an intent to sell.
Waldo is a persistent offender, which is a Range III at 45%. He has 600 days of jail credit. He was taken into custody on Jan. 26, 2023. Waldo was indicted on June 26, 2023.
Waldo will serve this sentence in the Tennessee Department of Correction facility concurrent with his cases in Rhea County.
The assistant district attorney general offered a negotiated plea to Waldo, and Judge Shawn Fry accepted Waldo’s guilty plea.
