Those were words to live by for Bishop Fenwick’s girls on Wednesday night. The Crusaders used crisp passing and shutdown defense to smother host Masconomet, 64-28, on the road in Boxford.
The best statistic of the night from the vantage point of Fenwick head coach Adam DeBaggis was his team’s 18 assists — and the fact that nine different players recorded at least one helper.
Senior captain Caitlin Boyle led the way for the Crusaders (now 9-1) by scoring 21 points with eight rebounds plus three steals. Fellow captain Celia Neilson had 14 points to go with five rebounds, five thefts and five assists. And if that wasn’t enough, she drew a pair of charges as well.
The visitors from Fenwick took command early, holding Masconomet (7-4) to five points in the opening quarter to seize a 13-point lead. The Crusaders kept the Chieftains in single digits in scoring in three of the four quarters, putting the game away with a 21-6 third quarter spurt after the hosts played it somewhat even (10-10) in the second.
Junior Sabrina Cafarelli led Masconomet with nine points and also grabbed seven rebounds while recording four steals. Freshman Farra Polito also gave Masconomet some solid bench minutes, scoring five while Shae Vella scored six.
