Cowden-Herrick announced Students of the Month and Staff Role Model for April.
Cowden-Herrick teachers have named sixth grader Mya Wells and freshman Connor Vaughn Students of the Month for April.
The Students of the Month are nominated each month based on academic effort, attitude, participation/contribution, responsibility and service. Junior high and/or high school students are selected each month. They each receive $25 donated by United Fidelity Bank.
Mya is the daughter of Dixon and Wesley Riley. She has three siblings, Harley, Lily and Aiden. Mya is on the CHBC scholar bowl team.
She enjoys babysitting. She plans to attend Eastern Illinois University after high school to become a trauma one nurse.
Connor is the son of Sarah and Nathan Vaughn. He has two sisters, Reece and Laine. Connor participates in FFA and plays baseball and basketball for the CHBC Bobcats. He also plays travel baseball for Effingham Iron Lions.
Connor attends First Christian Church of Cowden and is a member of the youth group. His future plans are to attend college and pursue a career in agriculture.
Cowden-Herrick announced Kevin Corley as Staff Role Model of the Month of April.
The Staff Role Model of the Month is nominated each month by students, staff and community members. He will receive a $50 cash award donated by Aaron and Devi Hawes on behalf of Lockart & Green Funeral Services.
Corley is a substitute teacher for the Cowden-Herrick CUSD 3A. He enjoys social studies and history and learning all he can about it. He also enjoys writing, relaxing on the porch and substitute teaching at Cowden-Herrick.
He has one son and four grandchildren and resides in Shelbyville.
