A two-game skid is in the rearview mirror for the Georgetown boys.
On a beautiful Tuesday afternoon, the Royals made the trip over to rival Pentucket and got back into the win column with a 4-2 victory. The host Panthers were holding their annual “Pink Game” for cancer awareness, a cause that was also being supported at the girls’ game between these two schools.
Leading the charge for the Royals (5-6-1) was senior captain Bryce Hodges, who scored twice. Zach Pinkham and Alec Turner also found the back of the net, Pinkham added two assists while Jacob Dunlevy had one, and goalie Peter Trougakos made 10 saves. One of those stops was a penalty kick when it was still a 3-2 game at the time, so needless to say Trougakos came up huge for the Royals.
Meanwhile, the Panthers (4-4-3) are clinging to a spot in the latest Division 3 rankings at No. 29, so Aiden Napolitano, Jayden Pabst and Jake LaCroix need to captain the team to some wins down the stretch.
NEWBURYPORT: Boys and girls shut out Rockport
The hot streak only continued for the Newburyport boys.
Ever since mid-September, the Clippers have arguably played the best soccer of anyone in the Cape Ann League. An argument that earned more merit on Tuesday at James T. Stehlin Field, after the Clippers shut out visiting Rockport for the 2-0 victory. Timmy DeGraves and Parker Johnson scored the goals, Devante Bucchiere and Danny Lopez had the assists, and in net it was Jack Burns posting his fourth clean sheet of the year.
The Clippers (6-4-1) have now won six of their last seven games, and have only conceeded four goals total during that stretch.
Meanwhile, the Newburyport girls made the trip up to Rockport on Tuesday afternoon but were still able to drive home with a 4-0 victory. Grace Parsons, Drew Pavao, Aoife Tykulsky and Lucia Savastra found the back of the net for the Clippers (7-1-3), who shot up to No. 14 in the latest Division 2 rankings that came out prior to the game.
The victory was also the 198th in the highly-successful 16-year tenure of coach Kevin Sheridan. He’ll have a chance to get 199 on Saturday during the program’s annual ALS Cup game against Pentucket, then potentially reach the 200 milestone as early as next Tuesday at Essex Tech.
TRITON: Girls get huge props at Hamilton-Wenham
This could very well end up being the definition of a “moral victory” for the Triton girls.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Vikings had to make the trip over to a Hamilton-Wenham team that sits atop the CAL Baker standings and currently finds itself ranked No. 4 in Division 4. The undefeated Generals (9-0-2) had won their previous eight games by an average of 3.4 goals, and were fresh off three straight shutouts coming into this one.
But the expected blowout never came.
Instead, Triton more than hung with a great team, finding the back of the net in an eventual 3-1 loss. Emilia Shkurti scored a beautiful goal from 25 yards out for the road team, and both Fiona Romano and Carolina Burl provided huge minutes.
After the game, the Vikings (2-8-3) heard about their inspiring performance.
“We got a lot of compliments from Hamilton-Wenham parents and from their head coach after the game,” said Triton coach Danielle Perkins. “I hope this was eye-opening for my girls on what their abilities truly are, and will lead to some good outcomes to finish up the season.”
AMESBURY: Hawks hang with top-10-ranked Hornets teams
Effort certainly wasn’t the issue for either Amesbury team on Tuesday.
Both the Redhawk girls and boys played solid soccer, but were just going up against North Reading quads ranked inside of the top-10 in Division 3. The boys dropped a 4-0 decision to the Hornets, while captains Maria Barbosa, Maddie Clark, Della Hildt and the girls found the back of the net twice in an eventual 6-2 loss.
Thankfully, it’s a setback that shouldn’t hurt the boys in their quest to make it back to the playoffs after missing out in each of the last two seasons. Noah Snyder, Chase Linsey, Maxx Rodrigues and the Redhawks (3-7-2) are currently projected inside of the Division 4 field at No. 25 in the latest rankings update.
