Dalton State College sets the stage for the upcoming holiday season with its fall play “The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s Production of ‘A Christmas Carol’” in November in the Goodroe Auditorium. Performances are scheduled for Nov. 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16 at 7:30 nightly and on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m.
The production, written by David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jr., is a comedic adaptation of the Charles Dickens classic set in England and features iconic characters such as Ebenezer Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future.
“We’re trying to get everyone in the holiday spirit,” Kim Correll, production director, said. “We all know the wonderful story and characters of ‘A Christmas Carol’ and you will see all of that in this production, but it will be in a very fun way.”
In the play a group of British performers enthusiastically portray a dizzy array of characters from the Dickensian favorite (and a few who aren’t), engineer some novel audience participation while bravely contending with an intrusive public address system and, in a real Farndale first, wrap their vocal cords and feet around two original, showstopping songs.
The student production includes cast members Alex Ogles, Amanda Pratt, Adrian Thompson, Taylor Wimpey and Levi Witt. Mia Moore is the stage manager, and Laurie Raper is the set and costume designer.
The performances are open to the community. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or online at www.daltonstate.edu/theatre. Admission is free for Dalton State students, faculty and staff with a Roadrunner ID.
