WINDHAM — Two people were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries after an accident at the intersection of Route 111 and Mammoth Road in Windham on Tuesday.
The accident happened at noon and involved a full-sized pickup truck and a smaller SUV, according to the Windham Fire Department.
The driver and passenger of the SUV were both taken to Parkland Medical Center, 1 Parkland Drive, Derry.
The driver of the pickup truck had exited his vehicle and declined medical treatment.
During the crash, both vehicles ended on the concrete median, with the SUV flipped onto its roof.
When first responders arrived, they noticed the occupants of the SUV were trapped inside the vehicle.
The female driver was pinned between the pavement and the upper part of the driver’s seat and the male passenger was hanging upside down, held in place by his seatbelt. Both were conscious and bystanders were talking to them.
Fire Chief Thomas McPherson called for additional assistance from the surrounding communities. Londonderry Fire responded with a medic unit and heavy rescue to aid in the rescue.
The Windham Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.
