SIOUX FALLS S.D. — Destinee Bursch finished with 22 points, five assists and four steals for the third-seeded Minnesota State women’s basketball team in a 87-74 win over second-seeded Southwest Minnesota State in the NSIC semifinals Monday at the Sanford Pentagon.
The Mavericks beat sixth-seeded Mary 90-66 in the quarterfinals Sunday.
In the win over SMSU, Natalie Bremer had 21 points, five rebounds and four steals for MSU, while Ava Stier had 17 points and seven rebounds. Elisabeth Gadient added 18 points.
The Mavericks won the turnover battle 35-20.
MSU (24-6) will play top-seeded Concordia-St. Paul in the championship game at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Pentagon.
Men’s basketball: Kyreese Willingham scored 34 points for the fourth-seeded Mavericks in a 72-70 loss to eighth-seeded Minot State in the NSIC semifinals Monday.
MSU beat fifth-seeded St. Cloud State 78-72 in the quarterfinals Sunday.
Justin Eagins had 15 points and four assists for the Mavericks, while Harrison Braudis added seven points.
The Mavericks (20-12) will await the NCAA tournament pairings.
Men’s track and field: MSU won the NSIC Indoor championships with a score of 206.5 at Myers Field House Saturday. It was the 14th consecutive indoor conference title for MSU, which is the second-longest conference title streak in league history in any sport.
MSU finished well ahead of second-place Augustana, which scored 89 points.
Jabez Reeves, who was the high-point scorer for the meet, won the 60-meter dash with a personal best time of 6.69. Reeves also won the 200 dash with a meet and venue record time of 21.18.
MSU’s Paul Lins won the 800 with a personal best of 1:52.65, while Sheldon McNicholas took the triple jump with a leap of 49-foot-4 1/2.
Women’s track and field: The top-ranked Mavericks won their fifth straight NSIC indoor title with a score of 255.4 Saturday at Myers Field House. That score was the second-highest score in NSIC history.
Grace Johnson won the 60 dash with a PR of 8.24 for the Mavericks, which ranks first in Division II, while Ashley Overgaauw took first in the mile run at 4:57.61. Robynn Roll-Curry won the 400 dash with a PR of 54.29, as well as the 200 with a PR of 24.30.
Stella Neophytou took the triple jump with a leap of 41-9 1/4, which is second in Division II. Noemie Thibaud finished first in the high jump at 5-7 1/4.
Women’s hockey: Jamie Nelson scored two goals for the Mavericks in a 6-2 loss to Minnesota in Game 3 of the best-of-three WCHA quarterfinals on Sunday at Ridder Arena.
The Gophers won Game 1 of the series 6-1 Friday, with MSU winning Game 2 of the series 5-4 in double overtime Saturday.
Shots on goal favored the Gophers 29-28.
The Mavericks finish the season at 14-21-2.
Wrestling: Three MSU wrestlers qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships at the NSIC Super Region V tournament over the weekend at Sioux Falls, S.D. The Mavericks placed fifth as a team with 77 points.
At 157, MSU’s Caleb Meunier placed second to qualify for the championships. Colton Hush (141) and Drake Hayward (174) each placed third in their respective weight classes to advance.
The Mavericks will compete in the NCAA championships Mar. 15-16.
Gustavus Adolphus
Women’s basketball: Emma Kniefel led the Gusties with 19 points in a 66-53 road win over Bethel in the MIAC championship game Saturday.
Izzy Quick finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Gustavus, while Syd Hauger added 10 points and four steals.
The Gusties (26-1) host Wisconsin Lutheran in the first round of the national tournament at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Men’s basketball: Drew Sagedahl scored 29 points for the Vikings in a 90-84 overtime victory over Northwestern-St. Paul in the UMAC championship game Saturday.
Jax Madson had 20 points and five rebounds for Bethany, while DJ Akpati added 19 points and seven rebounds. Dominik Bangu finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Vikings (14-13) play Illinois Wesleyan in the first round of the national tournament at 4 p.m. Friday at Chicago.
