Tracie Simmons is a true champion for the community, according to Kristina Horsley, communications director for Whitfield County Schools.
Simmons is Whitfield County Schools’ lead school social worker, and Horsley said she has “dedicated her career to supporting the well-being of students and their families.”
“She just recently led the Raider Nation Food Drive, helping alleviate the burden of food insecurity for 147 families in our community,” Horsley said. “She also spearheaded Teen Maze, a hands-on learning experience for 1,875 10th-graders across Whitfield County Schools, Dalton (Public) Schools, Christian Heritage (School) and Murray County Schools. This interactive event educates students about real-life choices and consequences, empowering them to make informed decisions for their futures.”
Simmons also oversees the school system’s efforts with “Santa in Uniform and Sharing is Caring, two Christmas assistance programs coming up that bring joy and relief to families in need during a time when many struggle to make ends meet. These programs ensure that students and their families experience the warmth of the holiday season, reinforcing the sense of community and support within the school district,” Horsley said.
For her efforts to support students and families in Whitfield County Schools and the community, the Dalton Daily Citizen names Tracie Simmons Citizen of the Week.
