Friday is approaching and the finals for Section VII are coming into focus.
The girls Class D tournament, which began last week, set its finals Tuesday night as tops seeds Bolton and Schroon Lake hosted Chazy and Boquet Valley, respectively.
In what could be labeled as a mild upset, #4 seed Chazy toppled #1 Bolton in a battle of Eagles. One could simply say, that’s why you play the game.
#2 Schroon Lake held serve against #3 Boquet Valley to set up a rubber match as the Wildcats and Eagles split the regular season.
Both teams won on their respective home courts, so on a neutral site all bets are off.
#4 Chazy 39
#1 Bolton 33
BOLTON — Chazy brought the energy that Bolton was unable to match in a 39-33 Chazy win in a Section VII Class D semifinal.
Carly LaPierre led the visitors with 18 points as she controlled the glass keeping second chance opportunities low for the host, while also making 10 free throws.
It was a tough night for Bolton as Chazy limited them to only one point in the first quarter and seven over the entire first half.
The Eagles came to play and made sure to control the pace of play, and kept Bolton off balance the entire game.
Jadynn Egloff led the hosts with 17 points as teammate Maillie Kelley added 12.
“Chazy did a tremendous job tonight controlling the pace of play and controlling the glass,” Bolton head coach Luke Schweickert said. “Carly had a tremendous game. Great win for Chazy, they earned it.”
