Lori Bowers was appointed by the Cumberland County Commission to serve as county archivist during its November monthly meeting.
Bowers has served as deputy archivist for the past few years.
Cumberland County Mayor Allen Foster said current county archivist, Joyce Rorabaugh, decided to step down. Rorabaugh has served as archivist for more than 15 years and was instrumental in aiding in the remodel and expansion of the Cumberland County Archives and Family Heritage Center.
“I have enjoyed working with the archives for all these years. I’m not going anywhere, I’m just cutting my time down there,” Rorabaugh said.
Bowers said she was looking forward to working as county archivist.
Bowers, was appointed in a unanimous vote, after Colleen Mall, 9th District, motioned for approval. Mall’s motion was supported by Nancy Hyder, 2nd District.
Bowers was appointed to fill Rorabaugh’s remaining term until Sept. 30, 2027.
In other appointments, Everett Bolin and Barry Field were reappointed to the Cumberland County Solid Waste Planning Board with both terms to expire Nov. 2031. Other members of the board include Cumberland County Solid Waste Director Conrad Welch, Beth Sherrill and David Hassler. Their terms all expire March 2028.
John Patterson, 9th District, did not attend the meeting.
