City of Lockport Police are investigating a report of shots fired in the 100 block of Willow Street Friday. Police received a call reporting six shots were heard and responded to the Willow Street location.
Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti said Deputy Richard Bull was providing assistance to the police when he observed a gray plow truck operating with no lights on. Bull attempted to follow the truck, which fled at a high rate of speed.
The pursuit continued throughout the city, Filicetti said, and eventually, the driver abandoned the vehicle on Center Street near Mill Street but was apprehended.
The 22-year-old city man was detained by police for their investigation. He was later charged by the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle above an 0.08% blood alcohol content, unlawfully fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless driving, resisting arrest and obstruction of governmental administration as well as numerous vehicle and traffic violations.
According to Lockport Police Chief Steven Abbott, officers recovered shell casings and a firearm magazine during their investigation. Deputy Bull recovered a 9mm firearm that was left on South Transit Street. Abbott said the investigation into the shots is ongoing.
