Amanda Detschner, clerk-treasurer of the Village of Barker, has been appointed to a one-year term on the executive committee of the New York State Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials. Olean Mayor William Aiello, president of the Conference of Mayors, made the selection. Detschner, who is the president of the New York State Association of City & Village Clerks, will represent NYCOM’s affiliate organizations. She is the only member of the executive committee who is not a mayor.
In announcing the appointment, Aiello stated, “Amanda Detschner’s leadership in the New York State Association of City and Village Clerks speaks to her dedication and expertise. NYCOM is fortunate to gain the benefit of her practical experience and unique perspective.”
Detschner has 13 years of hands-on experience with municipal management. NYCOM notes she led the Village of Barker’s recovery following the January 2019 fire that destroyed the village hall and Barker Public Library, ultimately overseeing the transition into a new building in May 2024.
Detschner graduated from the New York Municipal Clerks Institute in 2017 and earned her Certified Municipal Clerk designation in March 2018. In September 2018, she received the designation Registered Municipal Clerk as well as the designation of Certified Municipal Finance Officer.
In addition to serving as president of the state Association of City and Village Clerks, Detschner is the immediate past president of the Niagara County Municipal Clerks Association. In 2021, she was named Clerk of the Year by the state Association of City and Village Clerks. Drawing on her own experience, she has led sessions at various conferences on disaster recovery and protection of essential records.
