Alabama’s 19th annual back-to-school sales tax holiday kicks off Friday, July 19 at 12:01 a.m. and ends Sunday, July 21 at midnight. School supplies, clothing and computers will be free of state sales tax. There are exceptions, but in most items of clothing are included up to $100. Schools supplies up to $50.
The United Way of Cullman County Stuff the Bus campaign will be accepting school supply donations at Cullman Walmart on Highway 157, Friday-Sunday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Next Monday-Thursday, donations can be dropped off at the Cullman County Courthouse from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Other locations accepting school supply donations July 22-26 include:

— Cullman Electric Cooperative.
— Cullman Power Board.
— REHAU.
— Rusken Packaging, Inc.
— Wallace State Community College.
— Berkeley Bob’s Coffee House.
— Cullman City Communications & Cullman City Fire (Fire Station 1, 204 2nd Ave. NE. Fire Station 2, 1711 Main Ave. SW. Fire Station 3 and Communications, 1920 Butler Street NW).
According to the Alabama Department of Revenue, eligible clothing items include: belts, boots, caps, coats, diapers, dresses, gloves, gym suits, hats, hosiery, jackets, jeans, neckties, pajamas, pants, raincoats, robes, sandals, scarves, school uniforms, shirts, shoes, shorts, socks, sneakers and underwear. This is not an all-inclusive list.
Noneligible clothing items include: belt buckles (sold separately), briefcases, cosmetics, barrettes, hair bows, handbags, patches and emblems, sunglasses, eyeglasses, contacts, umbrellas, wallets, watches, sports equipment and band instruments.
Eligible school supplies, school art supplies and school instructional material include: binders, blackboard chalk, book bags, calculators, cellophane tape, compasses, composition books, crayons, erasers, folders (expandable, pocket, plastic, and manila), glue, paste, and paste sticks, highlighters, index cards, index card boxes, legal pads, lunch boxes, markers, notebooks, protractors, paper (colored, construction, copy, graph, loose leaf ruled notebook, manila, and tracing papers and poster board), pencil boxes and other school, supply boxes, pencil sharpeners, pencils, pens, rulers, scissors, writing tablets, clay and glazes, paints (acrylic, tempora, oil, and watercolors), paintbrushes for artwork and sketch, drawing pads, reference maps, globes and required textbooks on an official schoolbook list with a sales price of more than $30 and less than $50.
Books are also eligible, but the sale price must be $30 or less, per book.
Computers, computer software and school computer supplies are included up to $750. Computer parts and devices not sold as part of a package will not qualify for the exemption.
