After a successful season of cheer and basketball for the Golden Eagles, Athens High School has announced two new head coaches for their programs.
Kori Walker will join the athletic staff as head coach of Athens High School boys basketball.
Walker has held the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach position at Decatur High School for the past four seasons. He previously served as assistant coach at Gadsden State Community College and Gadsden High School as well as Head Basketball Coach at Cherokee County High School, Litchfield Middle School, and Gadsden Middle School. Walker, a graduate of Gadsden High School, attended Jacksonville State University where he earned both a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.
“I am always grateful for the opportunities that God places in my life. While I am saddened to leave my Decatur High family, I am eager to join the Athens Golden Eagles and start a legacy as Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. My family and I are excited to be a part of the Athens community,“ said Walker.
For the Lady Eagles, Tasia Farmer will step up as the head coach of the Athens High School cheer team.
Farmer has served as an assistant coach for the Athens cheer program since 2019 and has helped to lead Athens cheer to success at both state and nationals.
A graduate of Sparkman High School, Farmer attended the University of West Alabama where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. She then went on to earn a Master of Science in Kinesiology from Alabama A&M University. Farmer teaches Career and Technical Education Medical Academy courses at Athens High School.
Farmer is excited to embark on the journey of leading Athens High School cheer after serving as both an athletic trainer and assistant cheer coach for the past five years.
“I first want to thank the Lord for being so gracious to place me in this role. I plan to keep the incredible legacy and great traditions going strong. My goal is to strive for excellence, not only on the mat but also in our teamwork, dedication, and leadership in the community. I am eager to get started, to share my passion for cheerleading, and to help each member of our team reach their full potential,” said Farmer.
