The Astros built a 3-0 lead early in the second period in the title ggame of the the 2025 Heuchling & Swift Memorial Classic championship at UNH and then held on for the tight win.
Davids Hibbard, Michael Saab and Paul Phengsysouvanh had the Astro goals with assists to Daniel Richards and Jayson Vigeant.
Tanner Moody (27 saves) had some big late stops to preserve the title win.
Archbishop Williams 4, Central 0
Sean Tattan made 23 stops in the Central net.
North Andover 3, Masconomet 2
Matt Mangiameli’s first career varsity goal came at just the right time, in overtime, to lift the Knights to the win.
The Knights rallied from a 2-0 deficit with goals in the second and third periods by Matt Donovan.
Ben Woodford picked up the win in net.
Wilmington 3, Methuen 1
Methuen gave up three goals in the first five minutes and couldn’t recover, falling to 4-1-1 on the year.
Sophomore Jackson Laplante tipped in a second period goal from Zachary Herland and Colin Comeau for the Rangers.
Pentucket 4, Haverhill 2
The Hillies, now 3-2 on the year, got goals from Matt Costa and Bobby Caron. Anthony Pizzamenti made 29 saves to keep Haverhill in it.
Girls Hockey
St. Mary’s 3, Central Catholic 1
Chloe Luzzo put the Raiders on the board first with an assist to Angelo Cardillo, but the Spartans answered with three goals to win it.
Sloan Costa was immense in the Raider goal with 50 saves for 1-3 Central.
HPNA 4, Woburn 2
Charlotte Woodford netted the hat-trick for the winners, and Taylor Bierschied added the other for the winners.
Girls Basketball
Amesbury 52, Whittier Tech 46
A tough third quarter – outscored 22-3 – spelled doom for the Wildcats in the final of the Amesbury Christmas tourney.
Whittier got as close as three points in the fourth quarter, but that was as tight as it would get.
Vanessa Lawrence Taylor made the tourney all-star team, closing with a 17-point, 11-rebound, 4-block performance. Jami Ortiz had 14 point and six assists for the Cats.
Wrestling
Timberlane 65, Londonderry 8
The win improved the Owls to 10-1 overall and 3-0 against New Hampshire foes. Senior heavyweight Alex Hammond had a come from behind 9-7 win and junior Ethan Bilobram won a battle of All-State place winners from last season, beating the Lancers’ Cam Roussell 14-5 in a high paced affair. Sophomore Teegan Owens got his first home win under the light at 106.
