NEWBURYPORT — The American Yacht Club Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting boating safety and supporting educational sailing programs in the Greater Newburyport area, on Monday announced it has received a grant from the Institution for Savings.
The funding will directly support the expansion of the American Yacht Club’s popular summer sailing school, particularly benefiting students with financial needs.
“This generous funding from the Institution for Savings will be instrumental in expanding the reach of the club’s summer sailing school programs, particularly for those students who may otherwise be unable to participate,” said Lee Lane, AYC Foundation chairman. “This grant directly supports the AYC Foundation’s commitment to providing financial assistance for deserving sailing school students from local communities.”
For over 60 years, the AYC in Newburyport has been a cornerstone for youth and adult sailing education. Hundreds of young people from the Merrimack Valley have discovered the joy of sailing and learned essential boating safety through AYC’s programs. These courses are designed to be both instructional and fun, fostering improved boat-handling skills and a lifelong appreciation for the water.
Founded in 1820, the Institution for Savings is one of the nation’s oldest mutual banks with approximately $5.3 billion in assets and ranking as the second-largest mutual bank on the North Shore of Massachusetts.
The American Yacht Club has been providing its popular learn to sail programs to youngsters and adults in Newburyport for over 60 years. The AYC Sailing School uses Catalina Capri 14.2’s as the primary training boat for basic and intermediate levels of training.
