Coming off their first loss of the season last Friday night in Swampscott, the Gloucester High football team needed a bounce back performance in their return to Newell Stadium.
They got that and then some on Senior Night, cruising past Saugus for a 33-8 win to improve to 6-1 on the year.
Joe Allen scored twice to lead the charge — once in the first quarter on a 17-yard run and again in the third on a 65-yard scamper. Gloucester led 22-0 at the break and never looked back in the runaway triumph.
Jaylen Severino added a 32-yard touchdown run and a pair of two-point conversions while Sean Frontiero also found the end zone from a yard out in the second. Thomas Cribbs rounded out the GHS scoring with a 3-yard rushing TD in the third.
Gloucester, which was ranked seventh in the latest MIAA Division 5 power rankings, will head to Winthrop next Friday night for a 6:30 p.m. clash to close out the regular season.
