The Moultrie Observer is among the oldest continually operating business enterprises in Colquitt County. That’s 130 years of blood, sweat and tears from a loyal and courageous staff.
“Thank you” to all those men and women who have kept this paper going for 13 decades and “thank you” to those who are still keeping The Moultrie Observer putting out both a newspaper in print and online.
In the masthead at the top of the newspaper, what I guess folks would call our logo, it says, “Your Friend & Neighbor since 1894.” and that’s exactly who we are, who The Moultrie Observer is.
The reporters, ad representatives and administrative staff are folks who have lived and still live in your community. We have shopped at the same stores, eaten at the same restaurants and we have gone to church with you on Sundays over the past 130 years.
We have shared in Moultrie and Colquitt County’s joys and sorrows, wins and losses, and in times of prosperity and in times of scarcity. We have suffered and prospered the same.
Today, albeit with fewer staff, The Moultrie Observer continues the legacy of reporting what’s going on in the community whether it be on government and school board meetings or sports and recreation or telling a community member’s personal story of triumph.
We report on the good and the bad and, yes, we too, are affected by the stories that we report but we do strive to make sure that we report as accurately as possible, with no bias, and leave our feelings at home. Although, sometimes it is a thing difficult to do as we are only human.
As The Moultrie Observer is not funded by any government agency or non-profit organization, it requires customers to thrive just like any other of its neighboring businesses here in Downtown Moultrie and in Colquitt County. In other words, we, too, have bills and taxes to pay.
In the face of changing times, with technology growing at an ever more rapid pace, we are continuously evolving, as all newspapers are, to meet the needs of our evolving community.
We are grateful to those who advertise with us and those customers who subscribe to either the print edition, the online edition or both. It is you, who have believed in the value of having a hometown newspaper, that have allowed us to stay in business all of these years. Thank you!
