South Cumberland Elementary School’s sixth grade STEM class spent the past week creating a unique Thanksgiving surprise for a beloved member of the school community.
Students proudly presented SCES Teacher John Lewis with a specially designed South Cumberland Thanksgiving turkey, crafted entirely by the class as a symbol of gratitude and school pride.
The project, which blended creativity, collaboration and STEM skills, resulted in a colorful collection of student-made turkeys — each one showcasing the imagination and effort of the young engineers. The class selected their favorite to gift to Lewis, recognizing his dedication and the positive energy he brings to South Cumberland Elementary each day.
“We are very thankful that Mr. Lewis has joined the South Cumberland administrative team this year,” a SCES teacher said. “He is a great addition to our school, and we see the great impact of his presence daily.”
Lewis expressed appreciation for the gift, noting that the students’ creativity and kindness made the moment especially meaningful.
As the school community prepares for the Thanksgiving season, the gesture serves as a reminder of the gratitude shared among staff and students — and the strong sense of family that defines South Cumberland Elementary School.
