The Mt. Vernon (Illinois) Register News seeks a high-energy, experienced, newspaper professional to lead its team and its sister publication, the McLeansboro (Illinois) Times-Leader, with vigor and vision.

Our publisher-ad director must be knowledgeable about all newspaper departments, with an emphasis on sales management, and have a solid track record in driving revenue, effective expense management and growing the bottom line. In addition to organizational and interpersonal skills, candidates must possess experience in strategic development and implementation. We expect a leader with newspaper management experience to bring a creative approach in revenue development by producing products and advertising opportunities that will serve the community.

This person will oversee all advertising efforts, act as mentor to the sales team and ensure profitability of each product line. The publisher-ad director will seek and implement efficient operations through all departments, continually challenge situations and make changes as needed to foster a successful environment. We need a leader to develop, recommend and implement marketing strategies to maximize the newspapers’ share of the total market. Providing timely recognition of trends in the market in order to maximize gains or minimize losses is also a critical responsibility of this position.

The Mt. Vernon Register News is a 5,200-circulation, five-day newspaper, and the McLeansboro Times-Leader is a 2,700-circulation, weekly newspaper located in southern Illinois. Both newspapers publish a wide range of niche products and have a strong digital portfolio and presence.
