WXTX/FOX-54 is Columbus’ sports leader with strong baseball, football, college football and NASCAR programming. It is also a local news leader, having launched the region’s only 10 p.m. newscast in 2004 and its only 7 a.m. newscast in 2007.
The station signed on in November 1984 and affiliated with Fox in 1987, a year after the network’s launch. It began carrying Fox programming on Sunday nights and by 1993 had grown to a seven-night Fox network. It has been home to Fox staples such as “The Simpsons,” “America’s Most Wanted,” “Cops,” “24” and “American Idol.”
WXTX carries Fox sports programming including broadcasts of National Football League, National Hockey League and Major League Baseball games, as well as NASCAR races. It has aired the Super Bowl and World Series.
The station was named a Top 10 FOX affiliate in November 1994, awarded for prime time audience share. It has been named to the Fox No. 1 Club several times, most recently in 2007, in recognition of its sweeps ratings.
Southeastern Media Holdings acquired the station in December 2003.
