WUPV/CW-65 Richmond

WUPV/CW-65 in Richmond airs an engaging mix of programs that include timeless sitcoms, a local newscast and court, talk and sports shows. Its lineup includes first-run network and syndicated programs, as well as off-network syndicated shows.

The station signed on Channel 65 in 1990 as WZXK, offering religious programming. It became an original affiliate of the WB Television Network in 1995, changing its call letters to WAWB. After a sale two years later, it affiliated with the United Paramount Network and changed its call letters to WUPV.

The station was honored as UPN’s Partner of the Year and was UPN’s third highest-rated affiliate in the country. The Richmond Times-Dispatch and Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce selected it as one of the city’s 25 fastest growing businesses from 2004 to 2006.

In 2006, it affiliated with CW Television Network, a joint venture of CBS and Warner Brothers, and changed on-air branding to CW Richmond. Southeastern Media Holdings Inc. acquired the station a year later.

The station’s “CW News at 10” broadcast first aired March 5, 2007, with co-anchors Ric Young and Lee Mahaffey. It has since been Richmond’s fastest-growing late newscast.
