The 18-year-old Yastrzemski was Boston's 36th round selection in the June draft after starring for the private St. John's Prep during his high school years. He was also offered a full scholarship by Vanderbilt. His grandfather, a Hall of Fame outfielder, helped counsel him in his decision. While he was "honored to be taken in the draft," young Yastrzemski said he thought it would be best to gain additional experience playing college baseball. "Only good things can come out of this," he said. "The worst-case scenario is I get an incredible education." Yastrzemski will be eligible again for the Major League Baseball draft in 2012.
