Publisher
The Bluefield Daily Telegraph in Bluefield, W.Va., seeks a publisher to lead a team of dedicated employees working to grow our business while serving a dynamic region of southern West Virginia and southwest Virginia.
The newspaper, with daily circulation of 16,000, also publishes a weekly newspaper in an adjoining town, niche publications and magazines. Commercial clients include a university newspaper and other publications. We expect our publisher to successfully manage day-to-day operations serving these products, while actively contributing to our community.
The Daily Telegraph's next publisher will be a strong leader capable of motivating a veteran team of managers. Our ideal candidate has a passion for the newspaper business, a vision for the Daily Telegraph's future and the skills to take us there.
Excellent communication skills and an innate understanding of business and budgeting are essential. So is a solid understanding of Web development and Internet journalism and marketing.
Our region stretches across the historic coalfields of southern West Virginia and southwest Virginia. The area's natural beauty and distinct seasons earn it the title "Four Seasons Country." Our region offers a wealth of opportunities for those who enjoy outdoor recreation. Its rich community spirit is manifest by many active organizations and a calendar full of local fairs and festivals.
Bluefield, called "Nature's Air-Conditioned City," is a friendly, welcoming community that invites visitors to its downtown street fairs, an ever growing holiday lights display and its annual Mountain Festival, among other events. Our community serves free lemonade on the streets when the temperature hits 90 degrees.
We also boast a progressive business community, numerous arts and cultural attractions and excellent educational opportunities. Bluefield is home to two four-year colleges. Many other colleges and universities, including Virginia Tech, are within a short driving distance.
If you think you're the person to lead the Bluefield Daily Telegraph into the new century, please send your resume with salary requirements to: Frank Wood, Northeast Division Manager (fwood@register-herald.com).
