— Dennis Garrison has been named publisher of The Huntsville (Texas) Item.

Dennis, who served as advertising director at the Huntsville newspaper since 2002, replaces Rex Maynor who is now the vice president of sales and marketing for the Gulf Coast and Kentucky divisions.

A Missouri native, Dennis began his newspaper career in 1974 at the Lamar Daily Democrat in Lamar, Mo., where he started in the pressroom and worked his way to the publisher's position. In 1979, he joined the advertising sales team at the Pittsburg Morning Sun in Pittsburg, Kansas. In 1983, Dennis became advertising manager at the Newton Kansan in Newton, Kansas.

Dennis has always been active in his community, including the Rotary Club, where he previously held the position of president. Dennis is currently a member of the Huntsville Church of Christ and the Huntsville/Walker County Chamber of Commerce Preferred Partners Networking Group.
