Published October 29, 2009 08:56 am - Historical Society cuts budget, staff OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The Oklahoma Historical Society Board of Directors has cut its budget by $1.8 million and eliminated 29.5 staff positions across the state. The society's board made the decision on Wednesday. Executive Director Dr. Bob Blackburn says the agency has been stretched to the breaking point by budget cuts, revenue shortfalls and increased expenses. Blackburn says the society will try to maintain the high standards of service it has achieved since the Oklahoma History Center opened in Oklahoma City in 2005. Of the lost staff positions, 24 are in Oklahoma City. Remaining workers will have six days of furlough from January to June. The board also voted to increase admissions at the History Center to $7 for adults and $4 for children, effective Jan. 1.
