Published October 29, 2009 08:55 am - Haskell Co. seeks review of 10 Commandments ruling OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Attorneys for Haskell County commissioners are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to review a ruling that a Ten Commandments monument on the courthouse lawn in Stigler was unconstitutional. Attorneys with the Arizona-based Alliance Defense Fund on Wednesday asked for the review by the nation's highest court. Appellate judges with a federal appeals court in June agreed with the American Civil Liberties Union and a local resident that the monument violates the Constitution because its primary effect is to endorse religion. After the commissioners asked the full court to reconsider the decision of the three-judge panel, the judges split 6-6 on July 30, falling short of the necessary seven votes needed to overturn the ruling.
