MHS boys ranked No. 1 in another magazine

Another preseason high school basketball magazine has hit the news stands and Muskogee boys again are again getting a gold label.

Oklahoma Tipoff, published by Coachesaid.com, tabbed the Roughers as the top team in the Class 6A boys poll. Vype magazine’s preseason publication, released earlier this week, has MHS No. 2 behind Putnam City in its preseason poll but also picked as the team that would win the 6A title.

A feature on the Roughers is in the magazine as is a feature story on Oktaha girls coach Chester Pittman and the Lady Tigers seeking their 20th straight season of 20 wins or more.

Other area teams ranked in the preseason Top 20 in their respective classes include Fort Gibson’s and Wagoner’s girls at No. 4 and 6, respectively, while Fort Gibson’s boys are No. 9 in 4A. Sequoyah girls are No.4 and the boys are No. 2 in 3A, Oktaha and Hulbert’s girls are No. 4 and No. 20 while the Tiger boys are No. 3 and the Rider boys are No. 17 in 2A. Porter’s boys are No. 19 in A and Boynton girls are No. 8 and the boys are No. 14 in Class B.

Fort Gibson’s Carissa Crutchfield, an Oklahoma State commit, is recognized as one of the top five girls in the state in the magazine. She’s also the 4A girls Most Valuable Player. In the boys ranks, Oktaha’s Cale Elam is the 2A MVP.

Area boys recognized as first- or second-team all-state include Muskogee’s Oren Faulk, Fort Gibson’s Courtney Gaston, Sequoyah’s Cody Fourkiller, Gore’s Devan Rineheart and Porter’s Adrian Mosley. Girls named were Wagoner’s Janae McJunkins, Fort Gibson’s Nana Wallace, Sequoyah’s Lindsey Hammer and Nikki Lewis along with Boynton’s Sherri Lang and Breanna Hutchinson.

Coming Saturday

The Phoenix basketball preview series starts with the Super 7 countdown of boys and girls teams.
