School Board meeting at a glance
At its special board meeting Oct. 13, the Fort Gibson Board of Education:
• Received a report that Linda Clinkenbeard, assistant superintendent, has applied for a $10,000 health initiative grant through the Cherokee Nation.
• Received a report from Derrald Glover, superintendent, that bids will be sought in the near future for the student center and wrestling room and work is complete on the school track.
• Approved the operational budget for the 2009-2010 school year.
• Approved the contract for secondary and full-time adult career and technology education programs.
• Adopted policies on personal business leave, records investigation, teacher assistants and personnel vacations.
• Approved contract with Green Country Behavioral Health Services Inc. and Muskogee County Head Start.
• Rejected endorsement of Franklin Graphics’ proposal for “My Magazine” for Fort Gibson schools.
• Approved fundraisers from High School Color Guard, Fort Gibson Tiger/Lady Tiger Booster Club, High School Drama, and Students Against Destructive Decisions. There was some discussion regarding the need to sanction 4-H as an activity. Glover is to contact the OSSBA for advisement.
• Approved sending three administrators to China to tour their schools. The administrator’s cost is $450 each, plus expenses to the Chicago or Dallas airports. The board discussed the possibility the trip could be funded by the school foundation.
• Approved the Fort Gibson Enrichment Program Plan.
• Took no action on loan agreement for food service deficits.
• Approved schedule for regular board meetings for 2010: The second Monday of each month with the exception of February, which is scheduled for the second Tuesday.
• Approved not opening polling places with limited voters for the annual school elections.
• Discussed the establishment of a Junior Achievement program at each school to support the Business/Entrepreneur Career Pathway.
